Happy hour and sports bar visibility in AI search

Short answer
"Where's happy hour near me right now?" and "where can I watch the game tonight?" are two of the most common questions guests put to an AI assistant. Both depend on details most bars never write down in plain text: the exact days and times, what is actually discounted, which games are on, and whether there is sound, food, or a big screen. Writing those things clearly on your own pages is most of the work.
Why these two questions are hard for assistants
Both are time-bound and specific. An assistant will only name your bar confidently if it can find the day, the time, and what is included, written somewhere it trusts.
A flyer photo, an Instagram story from last Thursday, or "ask us about our specials" gives it nothing to repeat.
Writing your happy hour so it can be read
If the deal changes seasonally, say so in a sentence. An assistant repeating "hours vary seasonally, check with the bar" is far better than it repeating last year's times.
- Give happy hour a named section or its own page rather than burying it in a menu image
- Spell out the days and the exact start and end times, in text
- Say what the offer is in words: which drinks, which snacks, bar only or the whole room
- Note the exceptions honestly, like game days, holidays, or private events
- Keep the same wording on your Google Business Profile and anywhere else you list it
Game days, screens, and sound
Sports guests are choosing between you and three other places on the same block, and they are deciding on details.
- Say which leagues or teams you regularly show, and whether you take requests
- Say how many screens you have, whether there is a projector, and whether sound is on for certain games
- Say whether you take reservations or hold tables for big games, and whether there is a minimum
- Say what the kitchen does on game day, and until when
- If you have a back room or a patio that works for a group watching together, describe it
- Keep a simple, dated schedule page for the games you are showing, if you can keep it current
What not to do
- Do not claim you show a game you are not licensed or able to show
- Do not advertise a happy hour your local rules do not allow you to advertise; check before you publish
- Do not leave an old schedule or an expired special live, it is worse than having none
- Do not put the whole thing in an image, a PDF, or a video caption
Checking what the assistants say
Ask the same questions your guests ask, in the same words, and read the answers: "happy hour near me," "where can I watch the game in the neighbourhood," "a bar with food after eleven." Note whether you are named, whether the times quoted are right, and which sources the assistant leaned on.
That is what we track for clients, daily, across ChatGPT, Gemini, and Google AI Mode, with the full answers and cited sources kept so you can see them change. It shows you what is being said and where it came from. It does not prove that a particular guest came in because of it.
Frequently asked questions
Should happy hour have its own page?
It helps, especially if your times or offers are detailed. If a page feels like too much, a clearly headed section on your drinks or visit page written in plain text works too.
Our specials change weekly. What should we publish?
Publish the part that stays true, such as the days and times and the general offer, and say plainly that the featured drinks rotate. Accuracy matters more than detail.
Does posting on social media help AI assistants find us?
Not reliably. Posts are hard to read back later and often are not available to assistants. Put anything you want repeated on a page on your own site as well.
We are a sports bar with a full kitchen. Are we a restaurant or a bar to you?
Either, and it does not change the work. We describe you the way your guests would, and make sure the food side is visible if that is part of why people choose you.
Can you keep our game schedule updated for us?
Page updates are part of the work we do, with your sign-off before anything goes live. How much we cover and how often is agreed with you up front rather than assumed.
